You can chop trees to cause them to fall but if you crouch while doing so they will not turn into a sub-level.
Only Trees with Rooted Dirt below them turn into falling trees when cut!
To turn this special "Tree Sub-level" into a classic sub level, which is lighter and won't despawn, you can simply build on the fallen tree.
The mod is fully configurable and some properties can be changed through datapacks.
